Work is Worship: Slowly, Slowly, All is Coming

Posted on January 9, 2012 at 11:25am 0 Comments

Fourteen years ago I was traveling with my father through Sikkim, a land of many marvelous customs (Consider, for example, that their national dish is made with orchids.) Among them was a custom of writing on the cliffs surrounding their mountainous roads. I copied down quite a few of the sayings I saw there, including:

“If Married, Divorce Speed”

“Let Your Policy be Quality”

“Safe Today. Smile Tomorrow”

“A Friend is a Gift You Give…

Welcome to the Year of Absurd Prosperity-- The Readiness is All

Posted on December 22, 2011 at 9:37am 0 Comments

Before I begin, allow me to wish you happy, jolly, merry, joy. Regardless of what’s on your calendar for the holidays—whether it’s hosting 100 of your nearest and dearest or donning your oldest pajamas and settling in for a long winter’s nap—I wish you peace and contentment.

And now, as Bugsy would say, “On with the show.”

As those of you know you’ve been subjected to me in an in-person-kind-of-way in recent months, this past October I dubbed 2012 “The Year of Absurd…

As those of you know who’ve read “How to Wow” keeping a quote file on your computer is a must for use when you need an attention-grabbing opening to a speech, a closing punch to a presentation, or a pithy roundup to a blog post.

The beauty of starting a quote file when you don’t need it, is that when you do you won’t be left scrabbling frantically around the web looking for that perfect one-liner to drive your point home.

How "Free" is Free? (Your Free Time Might Come with a Price)

Posted on August 16, 2011 at 8:26am 0 Comments

As we head into the dog days of August, it can be easy to slack off a bit…think to ourselves, “I’ve been working hard. I deserve a little free time.” And that can be true. That said, when it comes to how you spend your free time I want you to begin asking yourself, “How free is free?”

Why? Because if you live to be seventy years old, you get 613,620 hours in your life—and that includes time spent sleeping.

This is not a big number.

Now I’m not saying it isn’t…

Noticed in your profile that cycling is one of your hobbies too. When I'm not working or spending time with my family, I'm usually on my bike. I've hung up my racing shoes but still "compete" in the local are group-ride race-fests. Best to you... Andy
