Does Worry Control You?

I was born a worrier. I think it is in the genes but I have learned to put boundaries around it. I am not perfect but I have learned how to understand it and intercept it when it happens. One thing I have learned is WORRY gets you nowhere. When the worry comes in, I have a discussion with it and replace it with positive thinking. I face it head on and deal with each situation. In fact, I choose not to worry when it happens. Yes, it is a choice. In addition, not worrying so much has health…See More

When Does A Good Brand Go Bad?

I tend to take everyday experiences and use them to illustrate business or career issues. This story is interesting because of the brand message this company obviously has spent time working on but failed to execute properly.A couple of weeks ago I hired a company to service our air conditioning unit for $139 per year. Not a bad price since it included two air conditioning services and and one electrical service. I hired the firm because they were highly recommended by a friend. For the purpose…See More

Social Media Tip: Protect Your LinkedIn Account with this Two-Step Verification

LinkedIn has introduced a new optional feature that adds another layer of security to your LinkedIn sign-in: Two-step verification.LinkedIn says:Most internet accounts that become compromised are illegitimately accessed from a new or unknown computer (or device). Two-step verification helps address this problem by requiring you to type a numeric code when logging in from an unrecognized device for the first time. This code will be sent to your phone via SMS. When Does a College Student Become Financially Independent?

Posted on September 30, 2013 at 4:02pm 0 Comments

This article was written a while back and I wanted to share it again.

When does a student become financially independent?  This is a question I keep struggling with.  I am dealing with this same question in my life.  My husband and I are working with our son, a sophomore in college, to help him obtain financial independence. Why are we doing this?  Our son told us he would like to be financially independent and asked for our assistance to work towards this goal.

Time Management Tip: Practice the 90-Minute Rule

Posted on July 17, 2013 at 10:22am 0 Comments

A number of studies show that most of us can work productively and creatively in blocks of time ranging up to about 90 minutes.  After that, our mind needs a break, a quick recovery period, a "micro-vacation" from the task or project at hand.

Practice the 90-Minute Rule. Purposely schedule your time and activities in blocks of up to 90 minutes.  Batch sets…

Personal Advice: Take Time to Celebrate Special Times in Your Life

Posted on July 1, 2013 at 9:30am 1 Comment

July 4th is upon us and it is a wonderful time of year. My advice is to take time and enjoy your friends and family for a day. Celebrate the holiday and celebrate life in general.

I am visiting my parents on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and my mom and I are planning on spending the entire day doing what we love best together.…
